□ Name: Braeden
□ Journal:
hireable
□ Series: Teen Wolf
□ Canon point: 3x14, after retrieving Derek’s item from the pile of mountain ash.
□ History: Literally the most minor of characters.
To recap for the canonblind: Braeden is first introduced saving werewolf Isaac Lahey from the Alpha pack, a pack of, well, Alpha werewolves. She rescues him from their base and revives him, and then defends him from the pair of twin alpha werewolves that pursue them. Both she and Isaac end up in the hospital since they crash the motorcycle used to escape.
Though it’s not known at the time until later, she is not doing this out of a personal sense to help him, but because Marian Morell had hired her to save Isaac Lahey, as Morrell would have been aware of his capture since she was liaison to the Alpha pack.
While interred at the hospital, she dazedly asks for Scott McCall, “the alpha”. Once awake again, she is aware of the danger she’s in, and cuts off her own morphine drip and escapes the hospital - leaving Isaac Lahey alone, but saving her own skin in the process.
She escapes to the school in search of Scott, running into Allison Argent and Lydia Martin, but the sight of the twin alpha werewolves at the school is enough to send her retreating into the school locker room. She tries to fight what amounts to most of the Alpha pack - the twins, the female Alpha Kali, and the Alpha Ennis - but loses, being shown injured heavily.
The “alpha of Alphas” appears at this point, name of Deucalion, telling her that she’s smart but defiant. She counters with telling him he’s afraid of Scott McCall and “what he’ll become”, and he counters by saying he’s going to have someone else deal with that threat for him - someone she surmises to be Derek Hale, another Alpha. Deucalion, once she makes this realization, slashes her across the throat and face.
We’re lead to believe Braeden is killed by the Alpha pack, but she (somehow) manages to survive and get somewhere to heal.
We don’t see her again until months later, after the Alpha pack has been eliminated and Scott McCall has become an Alpha. Derek and his uncle Peter are captured by mysterious foes, who have them trussed up, and are interrogating them.
Braeden shows up to save the day - taking down most of the guards offscreen (we hear her knocking them out, and them shooting at her, but never see it), and then she deals with the guard keeping Peter and Derek.
She explains that Deucalion hired her to save Derek (but not Peter, who she says she’s willing to leave behind). When asked why she would work for the man who attacked and scarred her, she explains it as “a girl’s gotta eat”. She also notes that she didn’t “save” Isaac, but was hired to save him.
Derek refuses to leave until he retrieves “it”, and Braeden helps both Peter and Derek find “it” (which is an urn with the last remains of Derek's mother) in a box made of rowan and filled with mountain ash (used as an organic barrier against the supernatural). Braeden unlocks and retrieves the urn for Derek and Peter, since she's human, and then, presumably, having returned Derek and his uncle to Beacon Hills, leaves in search of greener pastures.
□ Personality:
Stubbornness and determination are the main traits that Braeden shows when we’re introduced to her. After a motorcycle crash, she gets right back up to fight. Despite being in pain, she escapes a hospital and heads to the local school in search of Scott. And while in pain, she fends off alpha werewolves. Even when she’s injured, she refuses to take her licks lying down. She’ll do what it takes to complete her job - she’ll stay behind to help her target (in this case Derek) or to get them to come with her. And her job is whatever she’s paid to do, as both a hunter and a mercenary.
Still, she’s not loyal to the point of stupidity. She focuses on saving herself and getting to Scott rather than risking her life to go back for Isaac when she’s in the hospital - ironically, if she’d stayed behind she would have found Scott. And when she’s paid by the same man who scarred her, Deucalion to rescue Derek, she displays willingness to leave the other captive, Peter Hale, behind (since she knows he’s bad news). This isn’t to be mistaken for true disregard for others - just awareness of the fact that sometimes, it’s better for her to save herself or do just what she’s paid to, rather than go above and beyond the call.
Braeden is shown to be very intelligent, too - not a genius in school like Lydia or Stiles, but smart about hunting, and about fighting and improvisation. She doesn't assume that being in public or the hospital will save her from the alpha pack or the sheriff who wants her to answer for the damage she caused. She fashions a taser gun to stop the twin Alpha werewolves that fuse together pursuing Isaac and her - she did her research on what she was going to face when she went to save him. She's also able to rig a car battery into a makeshift defibrillator device to revive Isaac, so she's able to use what's around her to help her in a given situation.
She's slightly sarcastic and teasing, since she shows a moment of amusement over Derek and Peter's predicaments when they're locked up, but overall she's no nonsense - when she's finds a locked chest that needs opening, she simply kicks open the lock instead of picking it. It's the quickest way to get to what she needs.
Braeden may be a mercenary hunter who's willing to work for someone that scarred her, but she's more than that. She's tenacious, sassy, smart, and pragmatic. She won't ever be the selfless hero in the story - but when push comes to shove, you'd rather have her on your side. Even if you have to pay her to stay there.
□ Age: Not stated, and Meagan Tandy falls under the “adult teen actor” umbrella. Considering she’s a mercenary and I’d be uncomfortable placing a teenager in that role, I’ll place her around 26.
□ Gender: Female.
□ Appearance: Braeden stands about 5’10, and has an athletic build. She’s fast and strong enough to knock out a grown man with the butt of a gun and take on several more. She has dark skin, brown eyes in a somewhat cherubic face, and long, wavy black hair. She has a set of thick scars to match a clawed hand, moving from her left cheek down across the front of her throat and ending near her right shoulder.
□ Abilities/Powers: Braeden is trained first and foremost as a hunter. Her skills lie in those fields, and what she does, she does well. She’s aware of the weaknesses of werewolves (electricity, wolfsbane, being cut in half, hiding scents by covering them with strong chemicals like ammonia), and can use them against them. She’s able to use a modified taser gun (and, I’m going to presume, she modified it herself) to take down a pair of werewolves, so she has some applicable mechanical skill, as well as skill with guns. She also uses a broomstick to defend herself, so she’s capable with improvised weapons. She’s observant, and has a high pain tolerance.
She’s able to hold her own against four Alpha werewolves for far longer than expected, while injured, and takes down humans easily as well, without breaking a sweat. She’s also able to break the lock on a trunk using just her boot and foot. She’s strong, and capable in hand to hand combat.
Aside from being a trained mercenary hunter, however, she’s only human, and has the same weaknesses as one.
□ Personal Items:
1. The outfit shown here.
□ First Person Sample: [ braeden's post starts to an ornate and lovingly hand crafted display of... it can only be called a vibrator bouquet. all shapes and sizes placed in a vase, outside one of the stores. ]
Seems like that's the only thing to do around here. Eat, fuck, sleep, and work at a place that's all about sex too, so it comes right back around again. How constructive.
[ there's a small huff here, her eyes flicking to her reflection in the mirror. it's a pretty image that stares back. leather jacket, dark hair, dark skin, and her lips turned down in a small frown. she crosses her arms. ]
Help a girl out. Is anyone hiring right now? I'm mostly freelance, but I don't think anyone's gonna need my usual set of skills. I'd prefer security, though. Done plenty of that back home.
Hell, I’ll do private security, too, as long as you’re paying.
□ Third Person Sample:
Waking up bare-ass naked in an unfamiliar bed in a strange building had definitely set her teeth on edge. She’d had a headache as soon as she woke up, but even as she was gritting her teeth to get up, someone had shown up - while her blanket was slipping down her chest.
They weren’t even the slightest bit ashamed, and chirped that they wanted to talk to her. While Braeden would have preferred to kick ass and take names, she didn’t at the moment - they knew she was here and awake.
So she followed them once she had her gown on, and got the whole down low… the entire down low. Her fingers had gone to the top of her neck when she’d heard that they’d put a chip in her - some kind of tracking bullshit, she was sure - and how she was expected to integrate. Be happy. Give herself over to pleasure or something like that.
This was the biggest pile of horse shit she’d ever heard.
Still, when she laughed and tried to tell them to give up the joke, they didn’t. And by the time they had her dressed and turned out onto the streets… she was beginning to get the sense they weren’t joking. And when she began seeing just exactly how people were giving themselves over to pleasure - the couples making out, the couples having sex, she felt a lead weight settle in her stomach, and irritation come to the forefront of her mind.
“There’s gotta be some people in this place that haven’t lost it,” she muttered, before she figured she’d try out the chip. If there were other people with the chip in their mind.. maybe they weren’t all like this.
She ignored the flutter in her stomach as she thought it. She’d probably just jinxed herself anyway.
